Fish Oils: How Important They Are for Our Immune System

Our Immune system is crucial for our body to fight various diseases and keep us alive. Without an immune system, we will be open for every type of bad bacteria, viruses, fungi, germs to enter our body damaging the whole system in it.

The immune system creates a network of cells, proteins and tissues that have special receptors. These receptors get activated when the immune system doesn’t recognize the bacteria in our body as its own and it starts fighting. These germs or bacteria are called antigens, and the immune system produces antibodies to destroy them. Antibodies usually keep history about the germ and how to fight it.

Our immune system consists of two main parts.

  • Innate Immune System, we are born with (such as macrophages, neutrophils, and NK cells).
  • Adaptive Immune System when it develops the antibodies and keeps history of each defeated virus and bacteria. The adaptive system is always learning and adapting its antibodies.

Luckily we can have an impact on our immune system by boosting it with vitamins and essentials. It’s especially important for kids when their body is in the formation process. For the list of Vitamins and their benefits Go here.

Benefits of Fish Oil on Health

Brain Maintenance

Our brain function, memory and overall health have a crucial dependency on OMega-3 acids, especially DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid). DHA reaches the brain through the bloodstream and accordingly there should be enough in our blood. We cant synthesize large amounts of DHA so we need to take it from food (oily fish) or supplements like fish oil.

Gut health

Omega-3 fatty acids have been known for their benefit of lowering bad cholesterol levels and overall gut health. Being the type of polyunsaturated fat, they take anti-inflammatory function in the body.

Omega-3 fish oils make probiotics work better and boost bifido bacteria levels.

Heart health

As mentioned above, Omega-3 acids reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation can be harmful to the blood vessels and lead to a heart attack.

Omega-3 fish oil impact on heart health:

  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Reduces arrhythmia
  • Reduces blood clotting
